The Gangtey Valley, also called Probjikha Valley, is one of the most beautiful destinations in Bhutan. It is the winter home to a group of globally endangered black necked cranes that arrive every year from the Tibetan Plateau. It is a wide, flat valley without any trees but after walking and hard climb we come across dense forests and of course it is extremely rare to experience in Bhutan to find such as a wide valley. Gangtey boasts its own important religious site such as the Gangtey Gompa Monastery, situated at the head of the valley, from where we can enjoy exceptional views. The Monastery is one of the main seats of the religious tradition based on Pema Lingpa’s revelations and one of the two main centres of the Nyingmapa school of Buddhism in Bhutan.
A short trek of about 90 minutes, known as the Gangtey Nature Trail, starts from the mani stone wall to the north of the Gangtey Gonpa and ends in Khewa Lhakhang.
