Numbur Cheese Circuit is a newly developed 14 to 16-days long trekking trail that passes through the Khimti and Likhu River Valleys in the lap of Everest and Rolwaling regions. This circuit is named after the virgin peak called Numburchuli (6959m) and one of Nepal’s first yak Cheese factories established in 1957. While trekking into the off-the-beaten-track area, you will enjoy spectacular sceneries, towering peaks, the unique culture and traditional lifestyle of the Sherpa people. In addition, you will visit the beautiful monasteries such as Lhachhewar, Kyama, Gumdel, Bhandar, and Thodung Monastery on the way. These monasteries offer visitors spiritual and meditation experiences.

The environmentalists also get an opportunity to observe the rich biodiversity along the Khimti and Likhu river valleys, ranging from temperate to alpine vegetation. In April and May, rhododendrons bloom in abundance. There is a great chance to see eagles in the sky and musk deer as well as Himalayan Thar (goat), a species of goat antelope, and many other animals along the trails and pastures. If you are lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard as well. The mountain views are sensational. The Panchpokhari pass(4605m) and Gyajo La (Thulo Lapcha) pass at 4880m are considered the most adventurous passes with views extending north into Tibet and south to Pikey peak.

As far as the local people of the region are concerned, you will encounter more than 18 different ethnicities and will have a chance to observe their cultural knowledge first hand. You will be staying either with some Sherpa family at home or in tented camps. Staying with the Sherpa family you will be offered high-altitude tea and organic potatoes in your breakfast. This is a trek that will surely energize you and give you a new perspective on life in the natural setting. September to December and March to May are the best seasons to do trekking to Numbur Cheese area.
