Shisha Pangma (8,013 m/ 26,289 feet), one of the most beautiful Mountains lies in Tibet. It is the world’s 14th highest and the youngest mountain above 8,000 m. Tibetans regard it as the holy mountain. It has the highest rate of climbing success. The Chinese government has permitted the western summiteers to climb the peak through North West Ridge (Tibet) which is the normal the easiest route to reach the summit.

We organized a climbing trip to Mt. Shisha Pangma from Kathmandu via the Nepal-Tibet (China) border along with the Himalayan range. We make an overland journey from Kathmandu to Kerung and finally reach the Base Camp. At Base Camp, we rest for a few days and allow our bodies to acclimatize at 18,400’ using nearby terrain. Here we review our climbing techniques, becoming comfortable and proficient on steep terrain and fixed lines. After our arrival at base camp, we take part in our Puja Ceremony, a deeply meaningful and solemn Buddhist ceremony led by a local lama (Priest) before climbing the mountain.

From the Base Camp, we hike up to the Advance Base Camp situated at an altitude of 5,400 m. We gradually climb up taking rests and get properly acclimatized. The standard route is via the northwest face and north ridge. It is a relatively easy route with access by land transport up to base camp at 5,000 m. We use yaks transport to carry our expedition equipment from Base camp 5,000 m to ABC at 5,400 m and then we further set up three camps before we summit Mount Shishapangma. It takes 39 days to organize the Shishapangma expedition. Only very few climbers have so far scaled Mt. Shishapangma after the Chinese authorities opened Tibet to the western climbers in 1978 A.D.

Previous high altitude Himalayan climbing or a strong resume of alpine ascents accompanied by moderate altitude climbs is required for this expedition. If any individual participant intends to join our expedition group, please contact us by email at info@highhimalayatreks.com
