Rolwaling Valley Trekking bordering Tibet is a beautiful Himalaya region located in the northeastern part of Nepal. Trekking to Rolwaling valley can be a great option for adrenaline trekkers like traversing in the Everest and Annapurna region. It combines both uphill climbing experiences and crossing over one of the highest passes in the world, Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755 m) to enter the Khumbu (Everest) Valley.

You will trek through several villages from lower elevation to higher elevation inhabited by people of varying ethnicity. Hindu people are mainly inhabited at the lower elevation with their own culture and tradition whereas the higher elevation specifically the northern part is mainly home to the Sherpa community. In the remote villages, you will have the opportunity to explore typical Nepalese culture as well as the traditional lifestyle similar to Tibetan.

The major challenges encountered during the trek are that you will traverse over entire snow paths for a few days during the post-monsoon season, need to cross dense alpine forests, and gradually attain uphill elevation. One of the highlights of the trek is that you will visit Bigu Gompa (Nunnery) and interact with the Buddhist nuns. You will also enjoy the close sightings of a few of the world’s highest mountains en route- Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and many other peaks. The most popular Himalayan peaks of the Rolwaling region are Melungtse (7,181 m) and Melungtse II (7,023 m) and Gauri Shankar (7,134 m) and around 50 minor peaks.

Tea house facility is still not available all over the Rolwaling region except a few places. This is why we have to organize trekking on a full board camping basis. As Rolwaling Valley lies in one of the most remote and wild areas, trekkers should be in good health and physical condition with previous walking experience to attempt Rolwaling valley trekking.
