Overview

Mount Cho Oyu (8,201 m/26,906 ft) is the sixth highest mountain in the world. It lies in the Himalayas at 20 km to the west of Mt. Everest at the border between Tibet and Nepal. This mountain was first climbed in 1952 by a British expedition team. Just a few kilometers to the west of Mt. Cho Oyu, there is an interesting and pleasant pass namely Nangba-La pass (5,716 m/18,753ft) a glaciated pass that serves as the main trading route between Tibet and upper Khumbu of Everest region. Due to its proximity to this pass and generally having moderate slopes of the standard northwest ridge route, some climbers consider Cho Oyu to be the easiest 8,000-meter peak to climb and it is a popular destination for the professionally guided expedition teams. Mount Cho Oyu has the highest success rate of all the 8,000-meter peaks. For the summit attempt of Cho Oyu, one should have good physical condition, stamina and need to be healthy and fit to be able to walk for several hours straight. Climbing Cho Oyu also familiarizes climbers with the ancient culture and traditional lifestyle of Tibet.
