Everest Base Camp Trekking is one of the most adventurous and exciting treks that take you to the base of Mt. Everest – the world’s highest mountain. This trekking has been listed as “World’s Best Hikes out of 20 Dream Trails” by National Geographic.
The mountain scenery of the Everest region is incredibly beautiful. You will walk through multi-hued prayer flags, prayer wheels and intricately carved Mani stones dotted every hilltop and rock walls and trailside singing prayers to the gods with every breeze and every passing trekker’s. Trekking to Everest Base Camp, You can see prayer flags fluttering in the air either at the trail side or nearby Sherpa villages.
While on the trek you will also experience Sherpa culture, their traditional lifestyle and hospitality. You will stop at numerous teahouses, sip a glass of sweetened tea with butter and salt or Chang (millet beer) and get a taste of hospitality of the Sherpa community. You will also visit Sherpa Museum at Namche Bazaar, Buddhist Monasteries and Stupas (Chortens) on the way and learn about how Lamaistic Buddhism influences Sherpa’s life.
Everest Base Camp Trekking begins with an exciting flight to Lukla at 2,840 meters and then you walk through the picturesque Sherpa’s villages from Phakdingma (2,610 m) to Gorakshep (5,140 m) via Namche Bazaar, eventually culminating in the “ascent” of Kala Pattar (5,545 m). From Kala Pattar, the highest point of the trek, you will enjoy classic views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m) Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), Mt Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mt. Pumori 7,165 m), Mt. Kangtega (6,685 m), Mt. Thamserku (6,608 m), Cholatse Peak (6,335 m), and enjoy many other Peaks.
Everest Base Camp Trekk most of the time you will walk above altitudes of (3,000) meters in the Khumbu and Imja valleys, whose skylines are dominated by the massive Peaks of the Eastern Himalayas. In April- May the Rhododendrons are seen in full blooming with orchids growing all along the trails in and around the Sagarmatha National Park.
Trekking to Everest Base Camp does not require you to be an athlete or experienced hiker and climber. Anyone in good physical fitness and who exercises on a regular basis can comfortably and safely complete this trekking. However, you have to make difficult and sometimes long days walking to Base Camp and hiking up Kala Pattar but you have to make a slow and steady pace of walk.
